The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring the heroic sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families, fallen first responders' families, and catastrophically injured veterans. Through life-changing programs like the SMART Home Program, Gold Star Family Home Program, and Veteran Villages, they restore dignity, independence, and stability to those who’ve given so much.

Our Commitment to Heroes

A home should be a sanctuary, especially for those who have sacrificed so much. The SMART Home Program creates fully customized, mortgage-free homes for veterans and first responders who have sustained catastrophic injuries in the line of duty. These state-of-the-art homes feature advanced technologies such as automated doors and lighting, widened hallways and doorways, wheelchair-accessible showers, adjustable cabinets, and tablet-controlled climate systems—all designed to meet the unique needs of each recipient.

Stephen's Story

Stephen Gerard Siller, the youngest of seven children, faced immense challenges early in life, losing both parents by the age of ten. Raised by his loving siblings, Stephen overcame these struggles to become an extraordinary individual and a dedicated firefighter with Brooklyn’s Squad 1.

On September 11, 2001, after finishing his shift, Stephen selflessly responded to the tragic events at the World Trade Center. Unable to drive through the closed Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, he carried 60 pounds of gear on foot to the Twin Towers, where he heroically gave his life saving others. A devoted husband, father of five, and friend to many, Stephen lived by the philosophy of St. Francis of Assisi: “While we have time, let us do good.” His life and sacrifice remind us to cherish our time and use it to make a difference.
